Database Architect

Roles And Responsibilities:

Senior Database Architect who has developed highly scalable and high traffic web applications that can interact with business and technology teams to understand requirements, and architect, design and implement solutions for the JAZD multi-tenancy, SaaS-based Directory marketing platform. The architect spans a wide range of skills and has team leadership experience.  In particular, the database architect is responsible for the following:

  • Evangelize the Business Intelligence vision and strategy with senior management and within the various departments
  • Translate business concepts and map to data architecture processes and data structure for next generation Data Warehousing
  • Work closely with the Management, Marketing, Supplier and Partner teams to understand and develop new frameworks and features for Reporting and Analytics
  • Create and manage the technical JAZD’s core data models (OLTP & OLAP), data architecture and ETL infrastructure, and Meta-Data architecture to support the BI/Data Warehouse environment
  • Drives the design and development from the ground up through multiple production deployments; maintain a high degree of involvement with Infrastructure teams regarding application needs or repercussions of infrastructure changes; write specification documents and drive sign-off
  • Design, develop and implement documentation or tools to maintain the data architecture, and to provide information for our Technical Support team
  • Great team player, Enjoys mentoring fellow engineers and resolving technical conflicts

 

Desired Skills and Experience:

The ideal candidate has the maximum coverage over the following skills and experience:

  • 8-10 years experience as a database architect and engineer, with at least 1-3 years working against open source technologies like MySQL, Pentaho, Hadoop, Cassandra, etc.
  • 3+ years of software architecture experience building scalable data services and reporting systems with extensive hands-on implementation. BI experience preferred building products/platforms or in-house deployments and proven expertise in data warehouse methodologies.
  • Comfortable leading an implementation within both OLTP and OLAP data-warehouse database systems, and supporting an end-to-end data flow that includes instances of both kinds of systems.
  • Experience designing, implementing and maintaining a data model from the ground up.
  • In-depth understanding of algorithms, data structure, and performance optimization techniques. Knowledge of complex database design and high proficiency in SQL optimization, database indexing, and database partitioning.
  • Experience with and the ability to manage data movement of large amounts of data, including data warehousing, data replication, and swappable database server backups, and SaaS-based, multi-tenancy environments.
  • Experience with Java, JDBC, Hibernate, complex SQL queries, Stored Procedures and database schema design used for analytics and reporting
  • Strong knowledge of Object Oriented design patterns
  • Experience working on an Agile Scrum team / project
  • Knowledge of NAS/NFS, backup/recovery, WAN optimization
